A perfect example of this is a small business known as
KD Holsters
In the past five years if you’ve had a conversation with Kevin Manley, one of the founding partners of K&D, you undoubtedly came away knowing more about gun holsters and leather work than you ever dreamed possible.
Kevin retired from the
United States Navy
a few years ago as a Legalman. He took the skills he gained in the Navy to the civilian sector. His friends will tell you he was content but not really that happy in his new role, but continued to find great joy in two of his hobbies; shooting and leather working.
One day while attending a shooting competition he realized there was a serious need for custom leather works in the shooting community. It was this event that the discriminating taste of shooters became apparent, and that they were willing to pay for quality custom work.
After several years of hard work Kevin realized that his hobby had turned into a full-time job and a thriving business. He had taken on the naysayer’ that had insisted there was no more room in the market place for another holster maker considering how the major manufacturers had driven down price.
But Kevin understood his niche market and what
KD Holsters
customers wanted. When asked, Kevin will tell you that his success comes from listening to his customers and partnering with them to find the best solution that meets their needs. Every order is customized to the customer’s needs and undergoes serious quality inspections before it is shipped; so he isn’t trying to sell something – he is providing a solutions for the sport he loves.
