Outrageous Interview in Florida

Giver yourself time to see the big picture
Several years ago a company I worked for was in turmoil, so I decided that it might be a good time to explore new career opportunities. After writing a great resume, applying for what seemed to be an exciting position and going through several phone interviews I was invited to Tallahassee, FL for face-to-face interviews.
As expected, I was met at the airport by my contact. Walking out of the airport he began to cut me off each time we turned a corner, forcing me to walk quickly to catch up. Admittedly this seemed strange, but I overlooked it. Upon arrive at the corporate offices he chose to park in a space that make it difficult to exit the car. Again, strange, but we pressed on.
These little things continued throughout the interview but the crown jewel came following lunch. Just as things were about to wrap up the manager accepted what was labeled as an urgent call. He explained that he and the others must leave and asked if I could catch as cab to the airport. This really didn’t bother me because I was ready to end discussions. The interview team leaves and a server called a cab that promised to be there in about 15 minutes. Just as I’m leaving the server hands me the bill, saying that the others left without paying up. So what was too I do? I paid.
When I arrived at the airport terminal there stands the hiring manager. He explained that this was all a test to see how I would react and he informed me that I had passed and offered me the job. When he asked if I would accept the position I stated that I would, but only if he could explain to me how this test judged my ability to be successful in the position. The blank stair I received was all I needed to hear.
The following week I accepted a position with a great company, staffed with motivated people that know and do their jobs well. I’m so glad I held out for the right opportunity.
