Voice Mail Greetings

Professional Is The Only Way To Go

Leaving voice mail messages is an acceptable way to introduce yourself, but not the best. Make sure it is clear, concise and to the point – no rambling. If you have been referred to them state that immediately. A referral is an attention grabber, so use it early in the message. When it comes to leaving your call back number, slow down! Also, repeat the number giving the person a chance to make sure they’ve got it right.

While we are on the subject of leaving messages this is a good opportunity to discuss your personal greetings. If your greeting is not clear and concise – make it so! If you have 5 minutes worth of your favorite music on your greeting – remove it! Recruiters and hiring managers don’t have time for this. Chances are that if they are calling, there is a strong possibility they are making contact to setup a meeting or make a job offer. This is one of your opportunities to make a good first impression.

Finally, if you are actively in the job market remind household members that there might be strangers calling. Chances are they will ask for you by your formal name; leaving you with the impression they are unwanted telemarketers.
